In today’s dysfunctional political climate, patriotism is often treated like a partisan weapon. For decades, Americans on the right have watched as the liberal media distorts the concept of national pride, rewrites the intent of our Founding Fathers, and frames the values that built this country as something outdated—or worse, dangerous. However, despite the media’s attempts to redefine the American story, the truths of our founding remain: this is a nation built on faith, freedom, responsibility, and individual liberty.
It’s time to push back against the narrative that loving this country is somehow controversial or “extreme.” Patriotism is not hate. It is not ignorance. It is a commitment to the core values that made America the greatest experiment in self-governance the world has ever seen.
The Founding Fathers were not perfect men, but they were principled and courageous in their time. They created a government based not on the whims of kings, but on the inalienable rights of individuals—rights that came from God, not from man. Their vision was grounded in natural law, moral responsibility, and a belief in limited government.
Unfortunately, that vision is under attack. Today’s liberal media frames the Founders not as visionaries but as villains. Thomas Jefferson and George Washington are reduced to their flaws, and schools choose to follow liberal propaganda, while treating the Constitution as a relic of a racist past. Instead of honoring the Founders’ wisdom, many liberal voices use every opportunity to undermine the very principles that allowed our country to flourish.
The liberal media has played a central role in reshaping public perception of patriotism. Where patriotism once meant pride in American ideals and gratitude for our freedoms, many in the press now portray it as nationalism or even bigotry. A flag on your porch or standing for the national anthem is enough to draw criticism from certain talking heads in the media.
In February of this year, Mike Pompeo, former director of the CIA and secretary of state wrote a piece on free speech and the liberal media. In it he made this observation:
“One of CBS’ lead anchors, Margaret Brennan, during her interview with Secretary of State Marco Rubio condescendingly chided Secretary Rubio by saying that Adolf Hitler rose to power because ‘he was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide.’ Yes, you read that right: Now the Holocaust happened because there was too much free speech – not because Nazi Germany was characterized by the one-party rule of an antisemitic political movement that crushed free speech on the path to murdering millions, something that Secretary Rubio pointed out. The truth doesn’t matter to the progressive Left, though. According to their philosophy, free speech is permissible only when it aligns with their ideology, freedom of religion is reconceptualized as freedom from religion, and freedom of assembly only applies to groups whose voices are allowed to be heard. The far Left’s aim is to use the same tactics of censorship, ostracization, and criminalization utilized by the worst authoritarian regimes in recent history, from the Nazi party to Stalin’s rule to the Chinese Communist Party today, to rewrite history so that the values that define our nation become anathema.”
Outlets like The New York Times, CNN, and MSNBC often go out of their way to highlight America’s shortcomings while downplaying its successes. They frame stories to reinforce a narrative of systemic injustice, historical guilt, and moral failure—ignoring the unprecedented prosperity, opportunity, and liberty our system has provided not only to our citizens but to millions around the world.
Their reporting on history, too, often removes context, focusing on what was wrong in the past without appreciating how far we’ve come. This approach fosters division, resentment, removing of national monuments, and a sense that America is fundamentally broken. That message could not be further from the truth.
Unlike the liberal media’s shifting definitions of morality and justice, conservative values remain consistent: faith, family, freedom, and personal responsibility. These principles are not only timeless—they are foundational. When the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution, they did so with the understanding that self-government could only work if the people were moral and responsible.
We conservatives believe that the Constitution still matters, that borders should be respected, that life is sacred, and that the government should serve the people—not the other way around. These aren’t fringe beliefs. They’re rooted in the traditions that made our country strong.
When the media mocks these principles, or treats them as dangerous, they aren’t just attacking a political philosophy. They’re rejecting the American story itself.
True patriotism isn’t blind loyalty—it is a clear-eyed love of country. It is recognizing our past, both the triumphs and the failures, and choosing to move forward with faith in our people and our institutions. Conservatives do not deny that America has faced injustice. However, we reject the idea that those injustices define us. Instead, we focus on the progress that’s been made and the enduring promise of the American dream.
The liberal media often champions protest as patriotism. While intelligent debate and freedom of speech has its place in a free society, there’s a difference between constructive criticism and tearing down the nation’s very foundations. Burning the flag, kneeling during the anthem, or equating America with oppressive regimes around the world does not advance liberty—it cheapens it.
We remain in a cultural battle for the soul of the nation. Will we teach our children to love their country or be ashamed of it? Will we defend the principles of the Founding Fathers or allow them to be rewritten to serve modern political agendas?
Patriots, we must continue to speak up and support media outlets that tell the truth without a liberally fueled filter. We must uphold history, honor our veterans, and pass down the values that have sustained this republic for nearly 250 years.
The liberal media may have the loudest megaphone, but they do not speak for the millions of Americans who still believe in this country and showed up at the polls last November to simply say they have had enough. It’s time we reclaimed the narrative—not with anger, but with conviction, clarity, and unwavering patriotism.
